All you need to know about Pinot Noir...
Pinot Noir is a red wine that is lighter in style than a Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon.
It is one of the oldest grape varieties in the world at over 1000 years old.
A very fickle grape and generally a difficult wine to get right. It tastes very different depending on where it has been grown.
Pinot Grigio/Gris and Pinot Blanc share the same DNA has Pinot Noir they are just colour mutations, so if you like Pinot Noir you may also like Pinot Grigio/Gris and Pinot Blanc.
Old World Pinot Noirs from places such as Burgundy tend to be silky, smooth, with a distinctive ‘forest floor’ aroma. They are light with cherry, plum and herbal notes.
New world Pinot Noirs from Chile, New Zealand and the Pacific North West taste of riper black fruits, strawberries, with less herbal notes.
Pinot Noir is a key grape used in the blend for Champagne and sparkling wines giving the fizz a depth and complexity.
Flavours and aromas - Strawberry, Cherry, Earthy, Mushroomy, Herbal, Plum. Serve slightly chilled.
A hugely versatile wine that you can drink with just about everything, cheese, chicken, beef, pizza, duck, lamb, shellfish
The name Pinot Noir comes from Pine (the bunches look like pine cones) and Noir (black - the colour of the grapes)
